The letter from the Birmingham jail and Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil address the nature of evil in the community. Whereas Nietzsche uses a general approach, King is direct and more accurate and discussed particular aspect that affected the blacks in the USA. Nietzsche argued that there was a hierarchy in power inherent in the society. It is this power relation that creates a community with different moral approaches. Every higher culture involving spiritualization tends to intensify cruelty in the community that amplifies the suffering of the vulnerable. Societies should allow the weak to grow and flourish the top of the ranks. King noted that his presence in Birmingham, that the clergy had objected was legitimate and that his intentions were to fight the widespread injustice in the nation. Although he acknowledged that the clergy was legitimate in their belief in dialogue, King felt that protest creates crisis and tension that trigger it. He opined that the oppressed people had a right to break unjust laws that degrade human personality and hurt both the oppressed and the oppressor (King Jr.).

Further, King noted that the black community had been waiting for social change for long and, therefore, had to use other means including breaking the laws and taking responsibility. Further, King argued that blacks were supposed to have equal opportunities like the white regarding voting and other civil rights. The whites claimed that the laws were just but discriminated the blacks in many ways hence, contracting themselves. King’s approach is the best because in normal circumstances people do not hand over liberation to the oppressed. The vulnerable must fight for it, and this may include protests to force dialogue. King presented convincing arguments as opposed to the generalization, and almost unsubstantiated claims of Nietzsche. However, King should expand the approach concerning peaceful approaches to solving conflicts.
